Licensing Guide.

Suede's licensing system is fully programmable. Define terms in smart contracts, attach them to registered works, and let the protocol handle enforcement and royalty distribution.

How Licensing Works

01

Register

Your work is registered on-chain with a unique IP Account. This is the identity anchor for all licensing.

02

Configure

Select license templates or create custom terms. Set pricing, royalty splits, duration, and territorial scope.

03

Distribute

Licensees purchase rights directly. Smart contracts enforce terms and route royalties automatically.

License Types

Commercial Use

Grants the licensee rights to use the registered work in commercial products, advertisements, and revenue-generating contexts.

  • Revenue share configurable
  • Territory restrictions optional
  • Duration-based or perpetual

Derivative Rights

Allows creation of remixes, adaptations, and derivative works. Parent-child relationships are tracked on-chain automatically.

  • Automatic attribution
  • Royalty inheritance
  • Approval gates optional

AI Training

Specifically governs whether the registered work may be used in AI/ML training datasets. Granular control over usage scope.

  • Opt-in / opt-out per model
  • Compensation per epoch
  • Usage reporting required

Exclusive License

Grants sole usage rights to a single licensee for a defined scope. All other parties are restricted from that use case.

  • Single licensee per scope
  • Time-bound exclusivity
  • Premium pricing tier
